Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and rest of the T20 World Cup-winning Indian players were feliciated at the Wankhede Stadium with a prize money of ₹125 crores, in Mumbai on Thursday. Before the felicitation ceremony, the players were part of an open-top bus parade from Nariman Point, which was heavily delayed due to rain and traffic.
Departing from Barbados after Hurricane Beryl, Rohit’s Team India touched down in New Delhi on Thursday. Rohit and Co. have returned home after India’s title-winning campaign at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean. Ending the long wait for an ICC title, Rohit’s Team India outclassed South Africa by seven runs in the thrilling final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.
As the T20 World Cup-winning Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, landed at Mumbai airport Thursday and departed for a victory parade along Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium, a massive sea of excited fans and people from around Mumbai took over the streets and covered every inch of Marine Drive.
The victory parade, organized by BCCI, comes as Rohit Sharma led Team India to win the ICC T20I World Cup 2024. News agency ANI shared a video on microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) showcasing the massive sea of crowds alongside Marine Drive, capturing the collective joy of the country’s financial capital city.
“A massive sea of people covers every inch of Marine Drive as fans cheer on and await Team India’s arrival. The team will have a victory parade shortly to celebrate their #T20WorldCup2024 victory,” the ANI posted.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) arranged the charter flight for the Indian squad, support staff, the players’ families, board officials and members of the travelling media contingent after the departure of the Indian squad was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla revealed that Indian journalists, who were stuck in Barbados, boarded the same flight along with BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah.
After receiving a heroes’ welcome, Rohit’s Team India travelled to the ITC Maurya where it was Rishabh Pant who carried the trophy inside. They then met PM Narendra Modi at 11am at his residence. After interacting with the Prime Minister and having breakfast with him, the team briefly headed back to the Maurya and then went onwards to the Delhi airport where they boarded a flight for Mumbai.
